PS Jailbreak – The PS3 Modchip You need To Know About.
Along comes the PS Jailbreak. Some people call it the PS3 Jailbreak or a PS3 Modchip, but whatever the name, it’s one cool little accessory. Its a small USB dongle, that tells the PS3 that it’s okay to install games on to your PS3 hard drive and then will also allow you to load them from there too, sands the disc.
It is actually very similar to the USBMod for the Playstation 2 system that also just plugged in to your PS2 USB slot and allowed you to play your import and backup games, without having to do any internal soldering or installation.
The PS Jailbreak for all intents and purposes works the same way, at least as far as installation goes, as the ps2 modchip did. A quick plug in of the USB dongle gets your Playstation3 ready. You also need to have another flash disk drive plugged into the USB port (And USB Stick will do) in order to install your homebrew games and applications as well as the backup manager.
A good number of PS3 owners believed that a PS3 modchip was just not possible, that the PS3 was just not open and unable to be modified, let alone have a product that actually worked.
What really has me excited is that the installation, if I can even call it an installation, is so incredibly simple, that anyone can do it, without any technicals skills or soldering experience. Heck, you don’t even have to own a soldering iron..
In my experience with modchips, you always had to solder anywhere from 6 to 32 wires inside and right on to the main motherboard of the game system itself. I’m stunned, and very thankful, that this is NOT the case with the PS Jailbreak at all. It’s just plug in and play.
The backup manager software that comes with the PS Jailbreak is what makes all of this so magical. You simply install this software and you’ll see another icon right on your PS3 main screen, called the backup manager.
When you select and load the backup manager, all you have to do is insert any PS3 game disc, and the option to install the game will come up on screen. you choose YES, then you’ll see the game install right before your eyes, and also see the progress of the installation just like any firmware update would show you how much time is needed or how much of the game is installed.
The installation time varies based on the game you are installing, but so far, I have not had any game take more than 5 minutes to install.
Okay, everything you needed to do is done, you have the PS Jailbreak, its installed, you’ve put a game or two on your HDD, now it’s time for the fun. Once you’ve installed the games you want on your hard drive, simply load up the backup manager again, and you’re all set and ready to start playing. Now all you have to do is simply press the X button on the controller and start your game.
Once installed, the games themselves are playing much faster and load time have gone down to almost nothing at all when I am loading up a game or going from one stage to the next. The HDD loads games up to 20 times faster than the same game from the disc. You will, as I said, notice huge increases in load times, but most of all, you will notice how much faster you go from one level to the next with the PS Jailbreak.
Whether you already have a PS3, or are planning to buy a PS3 sometime in the near future, make sure you get yourself the PS Jailbreak too – you won’t regret it. It allows you to game faster, but also protects your expensive game collection from scratches or damage that you would have during regular use.
